How this is calculated

  1. Usage (GB) = amount × (TB ? 1000 : 1). Decimal GB, not GiB.
  2. If destination is Internet, billable GB = usage × (1 − CDN hit ratio).
  3. If free tier is on, subtract the provider free allowance, then apply remaining GB to published tiers.
  4. Monthly USD = Σ (tier GB × USD/GB). Yearly = monthly × 12. No taxes.

What this estimate includes

The model charges for bytes that leave the source region toward the destination you select: public internet, another region of the same cloud, or (where a SKU exists) same-region traffic that the vendor bills. AWS’s and Azure’s monthly internet-out grants are applied when “include free tier” is on. Cloudflare R2 and Workers internet egress is documented at $0 on the public pricing pages we check, so the grant toggle does not change that row.

What it does not include

A real bill also contains pieces this page does not pretend to price. Call them out in your own budget rather than treating a zero as “free”:

  • NAT gateway hours and NAT data processing
  • Load-balancer or private-link data processing
  • CloudFront, Cloud CDN, or Cloudflare CDN request and regional SKUs (the hit-ratio slider only shrinks origin-to-internet remainder)
  • Inter-AZ traffic that some catalogs bill even inside one region
  • Taxes, committed-use discounts, and private contracts

How to read the ranking

Providers are sorted by estimated monthly total for the inputs you typed, not by a claim that one cloud is “cheaper.” Change the destination from internet to cross-region and the order often changes: Google Cloud prices internet egress by geography, AWS by a simpler regional table, Cloudflare by a documented zero for R2/Workers internet out. If two rows look close, open the breakdown — free-tier grants and GB vs GiB assumptions move the number more than marketing pages admit.

Use the result to decide whether transfer belongs in the same region as compute, whether a CDN is worth the extra SKUs, or whether object storage with zero egress is the actual lever. Then confirm on the provider invoice. Sources and the last price check are on the methodology page.

FAQ

What counts as egress in this calculator? +

Bytes that leave the source region toward the destination you pick: public internet, another region of the same cloud, or (where priced) same-region traffic. Inbound traffic and traffic that stays inside a VPC without a billed SKU are not added. CDN hit ratio only reduces the origin-to-internet remainder.

Is the 100 GB AWS free grant always applied? +

Yes when “include free tier” is on. AWS documents 100 GB of internet Data Transfer Out per month to the internet from AWS Regions. Turn the toggle off if that grant is already used by other services in the account. Azure’s 100 GB Bandwidth grant is handled the same way. Cloudflare R2/Workers internet egress is documented at $0, so the grant does not change the result.

Why is GCP often higher than AWS on the first paid terabyte? +

Google Cloud prices internet Data Transfer Out by source and destination geography. The first paid gigabyte from Iowa to the public internet is commonly around $0.12, versus about $0.09 on AWS us-east-1 after the free 100 GB. That is a list-price difference, not a claim that GCP is always more expensive after Cloud CDN or committed use.

Does a CDN hit ratio replace CloudFront or Cloudflare CDN prices? +

No. The slider only shrinks billed origin egress: billed_GB = monthly_GB × (1 − hit ratio). It does not add CloudFront, Cloud CDN, or Cloudflare CDN request and regional transfer SKUs. Use it as a lever, then confirm on the CDN pricing page.

GB or GiB? +
